With a little extra weight (30 pounds to be precise), a mousy brown moustache and a fetching 90s wardrobe, Matt Damon is barely recognisable in Steven Soderbergh’s The Informant!.
The packed press screening demonstrated the amount of attention Soderbergh can warrant. The film is based on the unbelievably true story of Mark Whitacre, who, in the early 1990s, wound up blowing the whistle on his company’s price-fixing tactics.
Damon is laugh-out-loud brilliant as Whitacre, who hopelessly and hilariously becomes a mole for the FBI, in the hope of wiping his hands clean of the price-fixing shenanigans. While Damo might have taken on the role of Hollywood’s hottest action hero of late, The Informant! reminds us that his skills aren’t limited to just one genre, and he’s equally persuasive with comedy.
